Is surgery for me?

Currently, 20% of the United States population suffer from some degree of heartburn. However, that doesn’t mean that everyone needs surgery. In fact, we always try to first manage your symptoms noninvasively — through lifestyle and dietary changes.

THE FIRST HEARTBURN CENTER IN SYRACUSE

The Heartburn Center at St. Joseph’s Health is the only facility in Central New York to offer the LINX® implant procedure. This revolutionary heartburn treatment helps patients feel positive impacts rapidly.

the da Vinci Robotic-Assisted-Surgery System

As a leading hospital in the region, we are elevated by the recognition we receive from well-regarded sources.

ROBOTIC-ASSISTED SURGERY

Why LINX?

Unlike other procedures to treat reflux, LINX® is implanted around the outside of the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) and requires no alteration to the stomach.

IMMEDIATE RESULTS

LINX® is designed to start working the moment the device is implanted — patients begin feeling better, usually within the first couple of days of the procedure.

2

Less Cumbersome

LINX® is implanted around the outside of the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) to mechanically correct the way it functions. This procedure requires no alteration to the stomach.

Liberty 3

Less Invasive

The LINX® device is implanted through a robotically assisted laparoscopic procedure, using small incisions with the aid of a camera — a technique that results in faster healing and less discomfort.

4

Removability

Although the device is designed to last a lifetime, it can be removed — if there is the need for other treatment options.

5

Airport Safe

The implant will not affect airport-security screening machines, and there are two specific models that are also MRI safe up to 1.5T. While considering this procedure, discuss your options with your doctor.
